John engaged in the Royal Navy from 16/7/1870 (aged 18) on 10 years basis.

 

However, invalided out of the service at Plymouth in 1875 after serving on HMS Royal Adelaide as Junior Midshipman. Character: “Very good.”

George a Pte. in 40th Foot (2nd Somerset) Regiment. Enlisted in Sep, 1808 and served (and fought) in Peninsular Wars (from 1811) and at Waterloo (1815) where wounded.

 

The regiment was moved from Paris to Glasgow in 1818, and George discharged from service as invalid (ulcerated leg etc) in 1823, when described of “good character” and as follows.
